Does The HCG Diet Promote Weight Loss?

October 1st, 2009

The HCG Diet is based around a hormone that is found in higher amounts when you are pregnant.  Basically speaking, it’s legit.  It is the thing that is actually measured by home pregnancy tests to tell if you are pregnant in the first place.  But they claim that it will increase your metabolism, burn more fat, and also help you to not feel hungry when you are following their nutrient dense 500 calorie per day diet.

But does this actually work?  Well realistically speaking, if you are only eating 500 calories per day, some people could lose up to about 3 pounds per day, which is not healthy, but it could easily happen, because you are basically starving yourself.  But the average HCG patient is losing about 1 pound per day.  Does that even begin to make sense?  You are actually losing less weight than you would with just the diet alone.

The extreme measures cannot be sustained, and frankly speaking, pregnant women tend to gain more fat, feel hungrier, and have about the same metabolism.  So the idea that a pregnancy hormone would help with any of this is completely ludicrous to say the least.  And after the pregnancy, have you ever noticed how many women actually have a harder time losing weight than before?

When women suffer a condition where HCG levels are there and their body is basically tricked into thinking it’s pregnant, they grow a belly, suffer the cravings, etc just like a real pregnant woman.  But I highly doubt that they are actually injecting you with HCG even considering the lack of these effects.
